The Boonton 4200 is a microprocessor-based solid state RF microwattmeter. The 4200 can measure RF power levels from 1 nW (-60 dBm) to 1 W (+30 dBm) for a frequency range of 0.2 MHz to 110 GHz. The calibrated power level and frequency range of the 4200 is determined by the Series 4200 sensor used by the instrument.

  • Wide frequency range: 0.2 MHz to 110 GHz (sensor-dependent)
  • Wide power range: 1 nW to 1 W (sensor-dependent)
  • Low noise: The 4200 has been designed to minimize noise from all sources. Internal signal amplification occurs at ~94 Hz, reducing susceptibility to 50 Hz or 60 Hz fields
  • LED display: Measured power levels are displayed by a 4-digit, LED-type readout with decimal points and minus sign, and 0.01 dB resolution. The display also shows data entry and retrieved data—on/off blinking indicates that the values shown are not measured values
  • Analog indications: A front-panel analog meter provides relative power indications for peaking or nulling applications. A dc voltage proportional to the measured power level is available at a rear-panel connector for application to a recorder or other external device

  • Automatic ranging and hold on range
  • Automatic zeroing, operated by front-panel switch
  • Automatic sensor compensation: Calibration factors for up to eight sensors can be stored in the microprocessor
  • Built-in power reference: An accurate, 1000 mW, 50 MHz signal for instrument calibration is provided by a built-in power reference. A front panel key automatically calibrates the 4200 to the power reference
  • Calibration factor: +3.0 dB to -3.0 dB ranges in 0.01 dB steps, entered through front panel keys. Or, stored calibration factors are interpolated linearly and applied automatically to readings when the frequency is entered through front panel keys. Up to 20 individual calibration factors for up to eight power sensors can be stored in non-volatile memory
  • Pushbutton high/low dB limit selection: High/low dB limits can be entered through the front-panel keyboard. A front-panel annunciator indicates when measured dB levels are outside the preset limits
  • Solid-state chopper: Signal amplification occurs at ~94 Hz. Input signals from the sensor are converted into a 94 Hz signal by a solid-state, low-level input modulator (chopper)
  • Signature analysis maintenance: Connection facilities to permit signature analysis maintenance are included
